'Kay, since I never got to do the top ten books I will have a go at my own top ten! Characters can be anyone, mistress, pupil, doctor. Final table will be according to how many vots the characters get, not placings. Here is mine:

1. Joey (don't kill me).
2. Simone Lecoutier
3. Madge Bettany (earlier books only though).
4. Cornelia Flower (who sadly barely appears in the later books. Cornelia is my favourite of the Quintette, and is put here to represent them).
5. Rosamund Lilley (mainly cos she's the only working class girl in the entire series except Biddy who's brought up by the school anyway).
6. Len Maynard
7. Con Maynard
8. Rosalie Dene
9. Vi Lucy (she always seems to be really nice, and is not overbearing like Mary-Lou).
10. Grizel Cochrane

I'll count up all the votes on August 20th (assuming anyone votes) and you can edit your listsif you want.

Oooh, difficult! I'm not convinced I'm voting for EBD's characters, rather than the ones from drabbles or from my head, but still...

Edited to play with the order, but I don't think I'd ever get it right. Ros Lilley and Stacie should both be in there somewhere too. Argh.

Edited again to take Joey out, if she's not to be counted as separate people. I dislike her in Switzerland more than I like her in Tyrol...

I agree, this is a real tough one!

A random thought: what do we mean by "favourite" for characters? I mean, the ones I'd choose to read about aren't necessarily the ones I think are nicest, or most well-drawn, or most satisfying story-wise, or the ones I'd want to know in real life. Hmmm.

Yeah, it is really hard!

Just to clarify for people

No how high up the character is on your list won't come into how high they are on the overall list (unless there's a tie). That would be way beyond my mathematical capabilities! It's just how many votes each character gets, so you don't have to list them in order if it's too tough.

You have till August 20th to vote or edit your original vote.

Some people (myself included) seem to be qualifying their votes by putting things like 'only in early books' and so on. However, I will be classing Madge Bettany and Madge Russell as the same character not as two separate ones, for example. So if Joey Maynard has lots of votes, don't be too surprised!

Someone put Fiona and Flora McDonald in as one person. This is fine but please don't do it with the triplets since other people are voting for them separately!

I think that's everything. Wink

Actually it only took about an hour! I wasn't too surprised by Frieda, but I hadn't realised Corney was so popular (at one point she was actually in first place) or Miss Wilson or Rosamund. Or Con! I thought it was just me who liked her. Also I was surprised that Miss Annersley wasn't more popular.

Oooh! Have only just seen the results. Hurrah for Joey not being top!

I wonder if the prevalence of Con is due to drabbles? A lot of people like to write about her, because she's the triplet who isn't an annoying stereotype...

I can't think who EBD's top ten would have been... Joey, Mary-Lou, Robin?
