The sweet cupboard and requirements to hand in 'tuck' fro distribution in small quantities by Matron is mentiomed in a number of books (often allong with dire consequences when people don't hand in it). At the same time, the prefects are often depicted handing round peices of fudge or toffee that some loving person had sent them.

I suppose the prefects were considerde mature enough to regulate their own sweet consumption, but was this only a prefect privilidre? Did it apply to all the seniors, the sixth form, or only the prefects? I assume there was no equivalent at St Mildreds?

Does anyone know anything about it?

Well, it certainly applied to both Juniors (reference in, I believe, one of the early books about two Dutch girls feasting in the middle of the night) and Middles (Changes, with the Dawbarns, who are in Upper III). I think the situation was different in war-time, with much closer tabs kept on food. I imagine the Prefects were considered responsible enough both not to gorge and also not to leave food around that might bring in rats, mice and other vermin.

Vermin at the CS (and no, we don't mean the Middles). Urgh!

Or maybe because the prefects had their own room it was just easier for them to hide the contrabrand!

Well, as we know from New House that Matey didn't venture into the Head Girl's room, maybe they stashed it in there!

I thought she did venture into Jo's room and took her book.

That was Matron Besly, not Matey.

I find it hard to imagine Matey not 'venturing' to go anywhere! Headgirls rooms should hold no terrors for her!

In Bride leads, she is the one who actually discovers the ruin of Brides study, so she must have been as prepared to inspect there as anywhere else.
