Not sure if here's the best place for it so mods feel free to move it if needs be but ...

If EBD was still alive and you got the chance to ask her just one question, what would it be?

I would like to know at what point she, as opposed to her publishers, would have chosen to end the series.

Given your background, why don't more actors and actresses feature in your books?

Very Happy Eeeeee

We had this thread before - I think it was lost in the Hack Sad

Would Len and Reg's relationship be a good one, or would it be as awful as other people have written?

Mine is the same as Mia's. So often EBD has Jo repeating her side of stories that have appeared in previous books - but that is a story that she annoyingly refuses to tell the people listening. I want to know!

All Chalet girls have excellent marriages, especially if they have the benefit of being part of the Maynard/Russell/Bettany families to start with. You are condemned to a lifetime of hemming dusters in Matrons room for even daring to ask such a question. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

How much of you is in Joey?

Why didn't you write more about some of the other characters? ie Bette or Frieda or Wanda Von Eschenau (Jack's friend) or the second generation of the Austrian girls-the Mensches/Marianis/Von Eschenaus

The Queechy thing drives me mad too! I would ask her that, and why did Joey and Co not visit Robin when she was in France?

Why did she effectively write the Robin out of the series just as she was becoming interesting?

Why and when did Joey convert to Catholocism, and when did Jack (I'm sure his sister was a Protestant) and how did this relate to her own beliefs.

Actually I think I've just managed to ask three questions!

Why - other than to leave Joey unchallenged as the "heroine"! - did she effectively write Madge out of the series?

A book all about how a young girl survives after her grandfather died (as far as I can remember). They had to leave their old house behind (that was in a place called queechy). I only read it once, in the summer - there are 2 volumes and a search online should call them up. Be warned, they are long and the text is fairly small. I did enjoy them though.

Joelle, the scene with Queechy is described in Coming of Age:

Quote:
Joey looked along the piles, and suddenly grinned. “Who on earth weighed in with Queechy? I’ll have that, Mary-Lou. I owe Mollie Bettany a copy. I spoilt hers when I was in India by tearing out all the illustrations.”
“You did what?” her sister gasped, staring at her open-mouthed.
“You heard, dearie! I had a jolly good reason for it. But never mind that! I’ve never given her another, though I said I would. This’ll fit the bill. Mark it sold, Mary-Lou, and here’s the cash. No; I don’t want any change. Keep it to start you off.”
“Thanks a lot,” Mary-Lou replied, depositing the ten-franc note in the cashbox on top of a “rock.” “Shove a ‘SOLD’ slip on it, Jean, will you?”
Jean Ackroyd laughed as she did so. “The things you get away with! Mrs. Maynard, aren’t we to hear the story?”
Joey looked abnormally innocent. “I shouldn’t think of it! Chosen a book, Madge? O.K. Come on, then, and let’s take a dekko at the rest of the show.”

Did you ever wish you had taken your own advice (in Jo Returns) and made out lists of characters, families, situations, ages and whatnot, so you could have avoided making such glaring errors in continuity?

I only remembered I'd posted that a few days after I posted my question, hee. I truly do have the attention span of a goldfish. I'm still not satisfied though, in fact after reading EBD's letter I'm even more intrigued! Very Happy

Did you actually write some of the stories we complain have been left out and then have to cut them because the books were too long?

*sneakily slips in a supplementary question*

If so, where did you hide the manuscripts?

When and how did Jack propose to Joey? What was the wedding like?

Oh, and what did Jem whisper in Joey's ear that made her look so suprised in the cave (?) in 'Exile'.

Three questions... Sorry! Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

Me too! I'm sure it makes sense written as a story but her explanation just doesn't satisfy.
