I cant look up my CS books at the moment so correct me if im wrong, but i think in new mistress, Kathy tells her aunt that Joan Sandys and Mollie Carew were 3rd years at Oxford when she and Nell were freshers. That might be the wrong way round though.

If I'm right then this leads to a possible EBDism. Since Joan is games prefect in shocks, they would not have started at oxford till 1949. yet new mistress is in 1952, and kathy who is two years behind them has completed a 4 year course. Another time EBDism?

Apologies all round if im wrong about whats said in new mistress

You're right Mihiri. That is what's said in New Mistress, and it struck me as a bit odd too. especially since Joan Sandys was Games Pree when Peggy Bettany was Head Girl, but Nell Randolph, who was apparently in the same year as Kathie, was ALSO a contemporary of Peggy's.

(I think Kathie's course was only three years though.)

You're right Vikki, it was miss Andrews who did the four year course. It still doesn't make sense though.

Sharlie Andrews only did a two year course. It's mentioned in the first couple of chapters in New Mistress somewhere.

And didn't Nell go to the Oberland for a year, or am I completely making that up? In which case she'd only have had two years in Oxford by New Mistress!

Kathie being in Peggy's year works, but the rest are all messed up as far as I can see!

Peggy is very young when she is Head Girl. So maybe Nell could have been the same age as her, and Joan and Mollie could just have been her contemperaries at school.

Yes, but though there might be age differences, I don't see how Joan and Mollie could jump straight to being 3rd years immediately after they left school!

[Count back from New Mistress: Kathie must have started at Oxford the year Loveday/Bride were HGs (I always count CS years according to who was HG!), i.e. she was a first year the year after Peggy was HG, and according to her account, Joan & Mollie were 3rd years then].

Joan & Mollie were never described as being particularly brainy so that REALLY doesn't make sense!

Though that does account for it, what doesnt make sense is that there are only 3 years between Oberland and New Mistress.

Joan Sandys was Games Prefect so was there anything ever said about her wanting to do PT?? As if there was, she would have gone to Bedford instead??
