Okay, so I've just finished re-reading Mary-Lou (for about the 12563rd time) and I noticed that she gets knocked down by Emerence after disobeying Mlle de Lachenais' command for everybody to stand still and running towards the toboggan. This is never mentioned by anyone Confused So how come she never gets told it was partly her own fault? Can't help thinking any other character would be (especially given Joey's remarks about Jack's nephew, whoever it was who ran into the burning Chalet to rescue Cecily Hold the Fort being told off and several other examples I can't remember at the moment). Hmmm. Just wondered if anyone else had noticed that? :dontknow:

I think everyone was so relieved that she was alive and not seriously injured that they forgot to tell her off for being so stupid. Also she was Mary-Lou so got away with doing her own thing! Liz

Definitely the power of being OOAO. And the two girls involved in that were Hilary Burn, who dashed in after Louise Redfield (Redmond).

I think what happens isn't favouritism (this time!) but just not very well described. OOAO and Vi are near the top of the 'allowed' slope, and Mdlle and a lot of people are at the bottom. OOAO shouts up to Margot and Emerence who are at the top of the 'forbidden' slope, futher up. OOAO must be shouting as loud as she can for it to travel so far, but it's not loud enough for Mdlle to hear. Therefore when Mdlle shouts her command, given that OOAO has climbed even further up after her own shout, it's not unreasonable that OOAO is too far away to hear. Also, Mdlle is shouting to the people at the bottom who are rushing into the end of the toboggon run (and therefore in danger of being run over), whereas OOAO is climbing up the side of the run, which is normally danger-free. I reckon Cool

I see what you mean, though running into the path of the toboggan was still a pretty daft thing to do. And it was a good excuse to bash OOAOML Twisted Evil God I'm sad. But it's not like I have her picture on a dartboard or anything...

At the risk of sounding like I'm defending the creature Twisted Evil , I think what she was doing was climbing up the side of the run, where they would normally climb up. She's got to be close enough to the side that E's weight shoots her into a tree (there wouldn't be trees on the run itself, only at the side). If she was on the run then E would just send her backwards into the snow (with less bad consequences). So I don't think she was doing anything daft (that time!)...

On the other hand, she could just have thought that her awesome PRESENCE (capitals required) would be able to stop the sled.

Agreed - and usually in such circumstances, the powers that be tacitly consent that the individual has "punished themselves enough" ... Wink I'm sure Mary-Lou herself was well aware that the situation could have been even worse (death or paralysis) and didn't need it drumming in - and at least she wasthinking of others and not herself ...
