I'm just going through my notes about the events of June and July 1940 and I've written that on 10 July there were Luftwaffe raids against Swansea, Falmouth and on convoys in the English and Bristol Channels.

Given that I've very vague as to exactly where Plas Howell is supposed to be, could it be possible that some planes got a little lost.

Of course that ignores the fact that EBD very definitely places the raid in late June....

Plas Howell was round the Welsh Border area, so I would say that it would be feasible that that the plane went stray. Maybe EBD remembered the raids, but forgot exactly when they happened.

Plas Howell is said to be set in the Vowchurch and Peterchurch area along the Golden Valley about 10 miles or so from Hereford, here

There were loads of air bases in Shropshire-bit further north and there was a station near Hereford. planes did get really lost- there was a bomb near my village 30-40 miles from the nearest station which i think was Atcham? near Shrewsbury! i don't know when though!

Perhaps the real EBDism in the air raid scene is the way the Luftwaffe pilot brother of two of the old girls can not only identify the school from his plane but drop a message to it from the skies!

EBD explains that quite well, saying that they dropped it in the hope that someone would find it and give it to the school. However, one wonders what Colonel Black might have made of the message if he found it! I'm sure he would have become very suspicious of the school, getting messages from the Germans/Nazis. I do wonder, however, how Karl found out where the school had moved to. If he had dropped it on Guernsey, I would have been less surprised.
