I've only been really disecting the books since I joined the cbb, but everyone seems to marry doctors from the San (or elsewhere Shocked ) and I know it's been a topic of conversation several times.

I'd like to know how many girls/general female characters actually married doctors. There seems to be an overabundance of them Laughing

So far I've got:

Dr Maynard
Jem
Dr Graves
Gottfried
Dr Peters
Dr Courvoisier

And then I got stuck... Didn't one of the Linton sisters marry a doctor? I know there are more - any help is much appreciated Very Happy

Edit: Thanks to macyrose for posting Jennifer's list Very Happy Thirteen doctors... doesn't seem that high when you consider all the mistresses/girls at the CS, but in proportion to the number of women whose husbands are mentioned, it has to be a high amount Very Happy

Bette Rincini married one too, but he died Sad

Len was engaged to Reg, if that counts?

Bruno Von Ahlen started off as a doctor at the san, before changing careers after the war, didn't he?

The Lintons are two of the few who didn't marry doctors! Smile
Gillian marries Clem Barrass's godfather (she meets him in Three Go and they marry in Island) and Joyce marries a clergyman I think.

I should have mentioned that Gillian's husband is an artist and that in case anyone is wondering, the whole romance is cut from the paperback.

Yes, I just got the GGBP edition recently, and was absolutely shocked to find an entire "new" chapter and several bits in other chapters all about Gillian Linton and Clement Young. And the picture he paints of her. So sweet.

I think Mary Burnett is supposed to have married a doctor.
And wasn't Gertrud Steinbrucke's husband something to do with the San? Was he Dr von Ronschlar?
I have a feeling either Josette's or Sybil's hubby was a medical student or a new doctor? (It's mentioned in Redheads I think - whichever book it is where Jo gets the letter telling her about the two engagements) I WOULD check, but my bookshelves are a tad tricky to get to with a plastered leg....

Neither Sybil or Josette marry doctors. Josette's husband is a lawyer and Sybil's husband is in the Australian Navy, though he's the son of a doctor. If she can't marry a doctor I suppose marrying the son of one is the next best thing! Wink

This page: Professions, part of Jennifer's wonderful Chalet School Character Guide gives a list of husbands by profession and it lists thirteen people as marrying doctors:

Quote:

Doctor: Gisela Marani, Bette Rincini, Gertrude Steinbrucke, Mary Burnett, Grizel Cochrane, Joey Bettany, Hilary Burn, Biddy O'Ryan, Daisy Venables, Nancy Chester, Len Maynard, Frieda Mensch, Madge Bettany

Someone wrote a very humorous drabble about the doctor that got away. Con Stewerts brother who collects her from the school in Jo Returns is a doctor and doesn't marry any CS girls. The person who wrote it commented how very few doctors get away with not marrying into the school.

It's just been published by GGBP, so it shouldn't be too difficult to get a copy.
