Jack's home-made mode of transport from 'Lavender' just had me giggling for the last 20 mins.

Quote:
He's coming for them in that wonderful contraption of his, made of an old bath-chair, an aged tricycle, and rope.

What a picture! Can't you just imagine him & Joey out for their Sunday drive, the wind whistling through her earphones... Twisted Evil

Must be. I hadn't noticed it in my paperback either, just saw it in the transcript I've got.

Ooh this is Jack's *monster*!!! Wink

I'd never come across it until I read the HB of Lavender. There's quite a few other bits missing so well worth it!!

I don't have the HB, but this sounds very much like a wartime 'making do' contruction.

in what context was he using it?

He was going to pick up Robin and Daisy from school and take them to Plas Gwyn for the weekend, so they could get their first glimpse of Stephen.

Yes it is from the HB.

And this bathchair was supposed to contain two people safely? (However small Robon was).

I'm suprised Miss Annersley allowed it! And what had happened to their bicycles anyway?

I was going to ask that question? They used their bikes on any other day, so why the need for this contraption?

I've just gone and read the transcrpt, and they werer told to take their school books with them, in case they got trapped by more snow. Maybe the idea was that they would have too much lugguage to fit comfortably on the bicycle? Though this doesn't sound any better.

A weak theory, I know, but it's all I could come up with. Rolling Eyes

Possibly with the snow about it was deemed unsafe for them to cycle? Too much banked up snow and slippery roads. The tricycle may have been thought to balance better. Hope his knots stayed tied!

Would loved to have seen a picture of this, it's amazing how much of what makes Jack and Jo a normal couple is cut in the PB's, everything I have ever read that has been cut, doesnt make a huge difference to the story but you end up with a very different view of some characters !
