Sorry if this is the wrong place, but it *is* a Chalet book!

The last page has come out of one of my hardbacks Sad I want to reattatch it so it doesn't get lost, any idea of the best method to use to a) keep it in and b) not hiddeously devalue it Laughing

Sellotape seems a bit evil Twisted Evil

Sellotape is evil!! Do not use it!

Being from a profession that tries not to damage such things further I would say try a water and flour paste as it cane be undone without leaving damage, but the magic tape might serve your purposes just as well if you do it very carefully...

sellotape is evil, as is masking tape. You could use the expensive arcival tape stuff that good picture framers use to mount artwork.

When you paste pages back in they often stick out as you cannot push it right into the innards of the book. You could snip off the tiniest nano-millimetre of the inner edge

Since we're discussing book repairs, the spine of one of my Chalet Books for Girls came off during a move. Does anyone have any ideas on how I can reattach it?

And how about the hardback that I've managed to break into two halves?Embarassed I suspect the proper answer isn't duct tape. (Yes, I have one that someone in my family repaired that way -- uncomfortably sticky when you try to read it, but still holding together after a decade or three.)

I had one of the three-in-one paperback copies (Head Girl, Jo Returns and Carola if anyone is interested in the specifics!) that started falling apart many years ago, so I kind of assisted it to fall apart further into three individual books so I could shelve the bundles of paper in the right places. Amazingly, they are still all together, the parcel tape is still holding firm and I have managed to not lose any pages.

The fact that I have since gained new coppies of all these titles is irrelevant - I know nobody else would even think about giving them houseroom and I can't bear to throw them in the recycling bin. Poor little books, it isn't their fault they are so ugly and unloveable...

Is this the same thing as Scotch tape? That's what we used to use when I helped out in the school library. It's not crinkly and it doesn't yellow like Sellotape (it's slightly opaque to start with) but once it's fixed in the book it's there for good.

Thank you so much - any more details on what the magic/arichival tape is called and where to obtain it?

Glad to hear I'm not the only one with battered books Embarassed

Scotch Tape is the brand name, and you can get it in Rymans, WHSmiths, etc.

Rymans is a nation wide chain! Shocked
I thought it only existed in Bristol! I love Rymans it's so cheap and great!
It appears Rymans is another thing which exists in England but not Wales... like Pret!

Be careful. I don't know whether they're all marketed there, but Scotch makes lots of kinds of Scotch tape, including some that yellow badly. To people of my generation, "Scotch tape" is probably what you'd call sellotape, and I can tell you from experience that in the not too distant future it will peel away, leaving nasty yellow/brown marks. Scotch brand magic tape says Scotch magic tape. I don't know whether it counts as archival or not, but it's definitely an improvement over ordinary Scotch tape.

I's definitely scotch magic tape in the green box. I use it for mending the library books after the lovely children have been at them!

Cazx dear, haven't you realised YET that as far as most of the Multinationals are concerned, Wales basically means 'Cardiff'.The rest of the country seems to be either
a) out in the sticks or
b) somewhere on another planet!
Don't get me wrong, I've nothing against Cardiff, but if you try filling in an official form( e.g. account application) over the phone and it's a welsh sounding address, the person at the other end will usually ask 'where is that?!!' And even when you've explained they STILL don't get it (and sure as eggs is eggs they can't pronounce it!!!!! I've heard Dyfed[duh- fid] pronounced Die- fed!). Rolling Eyes
